Kathleen Thomas MA OTR/L (408-836-8335) grew up in a small border town and had the advantage of attending kindergarten in Sonora, Mexico which afforded me immersion in both the Mexican culture and Spanish language.  Bilingual skills and cultural competency have been huge assets my entire career.  She completed the Occupational Therapy Program at University of Washington, Seattle in 1986, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree as well as national certification to practice as an OT.  She has had a rich mix of medically and educationally based experiences including but not limited to:  Packard Children's Hospital, Santa Clara Office of Education Early Intervention and Kaiser Medical Center.  In addition, she worked as an OT manager for Associated Learning and Language and acted as Occupational Therapy Director at I Can Too Learning Center.  She returned to school while working and raising young children, receiving her Master's degree in Early Childhood Education with a focus on autism from Santa Clara University in 2008.  She is NDT certified in pediatrics and has attended numerous continuing education courses including the advanced SOS feeding courses by Kay Toomey.  She has also obtained professional concentration certification in working with ASD from UC Davis.  She strongly believes in a transdisciplinary approach to working with children with special needs whether in the clinic or the schools and supports the role of parents as primary team members.  When not working, she enjoys spending time with her children, now young adults, traveling, reading and pursuing fitness through dance and yoga.  Her overall goal is to live a balanced life and be of service to the community.
